The Lecture Series
C. G. Jung's Theory of
Personality Types presented by Gregg Furth, Ph.D. Format - Lecture. An understanding of personality type is essential
to understanding the perspectives and motivations of both ourselves and others. In
this program, Jungian analyst Dr. Gregg Furth presents an introductory lecture on the
different personality types that Dr. Carl Jung identified in his typology theory.
Dr. Furths lively descriptions and examples of the two attitudes and four
ways of functioning bring the 16 types to life, highlighting their strengths and revealing
the limitations of over-reliance on any function to the exclusion of another. Dr.
Furth goes on to explore the effects of type on relationships, and changes of type which
can occur within an individual over the course of a lifetime. Finally, he discusses
what Jung identified as one of the ultimate achievements in personal development, the
transcendent function, which is the ability to access any of the types at will according
to the situation. Stock #501. 56 Minutes. $50.00.
Exploring the Unconscious Through Drawings presented Gregg Furth, Ph.D. Format - Lecture. In this lecture Dr. Furth, a specialist at interpreting spontaneous drawings, lays the groundwork for understanding their symbolic language. He begins by explaining how complexes work and by illustrating the power and universal nature of the Archetypes. He then shares examples of drawings and active imagination from his work - primarily with terminally ill children. When carefully analyzed, these expressions of the unconscious reveal an uncanny degree of insight into the individuals current condition and eventual fate. He explains how these messages from the unconscious can help to heal emotional wounds, create new energy for life, and when the time comes, to help ease the passage from it. Stock #502. 81 Minutes. $50.00.
The Secret World of Drawings presented Gregg Furth, Ph.D. Format - Lecture. In The Secret World of Drawings, Dr. Furth shares the specific guidelines he follows when analyzing a drawing. He illustrates each guideline with drawings hes collected over the years. He then describes the value of these techniques for helping clients to recognize the landscape of their own souls. Although he directs his remarks primarily to other therapists, his methods can be used by anyone interested in developing a better understanding of the images emerging from the unconscious. Stock #503. 73 Minutes. $50.00.
A Journey Into the Soul-Shadow presented by Pauline Napier, Lic. Psy. Format - Lecture. In this personal account of a womans individuation process, Jungian analyst Pauline Napier describes her journey back to her ancestral home of Sicily and her search for a Black Madonna described by her Sicilian grandmother. Her outer-world journey becomes intertwined with her inner search for the sources of strength within the feminine soul. She discovers that this strength is rooted in the knowledge of evil. Just as a vaccination introduces a weakened virus into the body to protect it from the virus at full strength; an "inoculation" with a sliver of evil is necessary to immunize the psyche, so that it may not die in the face real evil. The story of the Black Madonna of Tindari, Sicily, reveals a woman-mother who acknowledges the darkness of the soul-shadow within all women. This shadow self-knowledge offers new strength and the possibility of redemption for herself and humankind. Stock #510. 77 Minutes. $50.00.
Searching for the Masculine Soul presented by Pauline Napier, Lic. Psy. Format - Lecture. Pauline Napier uses her lecture, A Journey into the Soul-Shadow as a springboard for her inquiry into the affect a womans soul-shadow has on men. In Searching for the Masculine Soul, she offers an in depth look at the second half of life challenge facing all men. She examines Carl Jungs relationships with the important women in his life, and how these relationships seem to have influenced his individuation process. She then turns to the story of Merlins enchainment in the forest by the beautiful Niniane from the Grail Legend as presented in Heinrich Zimmers The King and the Corpse: Tales of the Souls Conquest of Evil. Pauline Napiers analysis of the feminine soul-shadows ability to keep the masculine soul enchained in the unconscious, offers insight into the workings of a mans relationships with other men and women, as well as his connection with his own soul. Stock #511. 84 Minutes. $50.00.
Active Imagination as developed by C. G. Jung. Format Lecture. In this program, Pauline Napier explains Dr. Jungs important concept of "Active Imagination," a method of encountering the deeper layers of the cultural, collective and archetypal unconscious, which reside below ones personal unconscious. She emphasizes the need for a strong ego before one can successfully confront the powerful archetypal forces and images that must be dealt with in the individuation process. Pauline describes the five steps for entering into this odyssey as outlined by Barbara Hannah, an analyst trained by Jung, in Hannah's book, Encounters with the Soul: Active Imagination as Developed by C.G. Jung. 59 minutes. $50.00.
Ann's Log: One Woman's Experience of Active Imagination. Format Lecture. Pauline Napier presents details of a mature womans individuation process as facilitated by active imagination. She uses the journal kept by a woman named Ann to illustrate the stages of this inner journey into the depths of the personal and the collective unconscious. Each section of Anns log is covered in a separate film:
Part A The Desert 40 minutes.
Part B The Dark Continent Under the Sea - 94 minutes.
Part C The Garden
Part D The Dénouement
Anns descent into the depths of her unconscious and her return with renewed Life Spirit, offers a compelling example of the power of active imagination. $100.00 for the series.
